Between the wars

My grandfather, Charlie, mowed our grass with a push mower through the 50s and 60s in a singlet and shorts. I saw an older shot of him standing beside the mower in the 30s in singlet, long pants and boots...you don't see that anymore.

Because I named the print Between the Wars, I wanted him to be mowing between two houses with the light coming into the intermediate space. One house is a notable and idiosyncratic bungalow in Toowong, placed beside a more common Brisbane version of the bungalow, complete with timber 'piers', frangipani overhanging.
